5 Contestants from the UK’s First Bisexual Dating Show Tells their Story of What it is Really Like to be Bisexual

You think it is difficult living as gay? Well, think again. Bisexuals have it worse. First, you have to struggle to wrap your head around the fact that you are attracted to men and women alike. Second, you have to struggle to come out to your family, friends, and the world. Lastly, you have to worry about life after ‘coming out.’ The troubles just never end.

Dating life is also a mess as people typically see bisexuals as cheats who always want threesomes.

What’s worse? These deterrent factors keep people in their closet that young bisexuals have no mentor to look up to. Can it get worse?

Owing to these difficulties experienced by bisexuals, a UK show was made to help educate the society on bisexual dating and eliminate misconceptions about being attracted to both sexes.

The contestants are optimistic that the show will help young bisexuals struggling like they once did. Here are real-life tales from some of the contestants.

Michael Gunning: Gunning is a 24-year-old swimmer who lives in Manchester. He narrated that he had never been on a date before he came out. People always see him as weird and he decided to keep to himself. Although he has always behaved more like the female folk, he only realized he is bisexual at the age of 20. fortunately for him, his friend, Tom Daley was there to help him through it.

Matt Brindley: In Brindley’s case, he was too scared to come out as his parents are more of the traditional, old fashioned kind. He later came out through a phone call while away in Australia and only the father was supportive. The mum stopped talking to him for a while and later accepted his strong attraction to men. However, he thinks he will end up with a woman despite his attraction for men because he is more relaxed with women than men. Also, none of his relationship with men has lasted longer than 6 months.

Mariella Amodeo: The 33-year-old make-up artist based in London narrated that she has always known she had a thing for both sexes since she was eight years old. She stated that it was difficult growing up with no one to rely on or a mentor to look up to.

Carmen Clarke: Clarke shared an interesting story of how her entire family came out after she garnered the courage to come out to her family. She said she has always known she was bisexual since the age of 15 but she was too scared to admit her sexuality. Her major challenge so far is that people do not believe she is bisexual. They believe she is too pretty for that.

Ryan Cleary: The 27-year-old fitness influencer based in London shared his experience on how coming out landed him in danger. He was attacked in a nightclub by a gang who wanted a piece of him. Cleary shared that he knew he was bisexual at the age of 14 but had no one to look up to or rely on.
